I have been a St. Louis Cardinals fan since birth. When I was 1 I frequently walked around in only a diaper and Cardinals hat. When I was 8 my first reaction to receiving a Cubs troll as a present was to immediately chuck it in the trash. Ozzie Smith was my hero. I could go on about my extreme fandom but its after midnight and I should really go to bed at some point…
Now that I live in DC I have started the tradition of going to every game the Cardinals play at the Nationals stadium. Last year The Best Friend flew out and we went to four in a row. This year since she is gallivanting around Thailand or some such place I have had to make alternate arrangements. Tonight I was super excited to go with a fellow J-schooler from college who now lives in the area as well.
Going into the game my boys were leading the division. The weather was absolutely perfect and I got to enjoy my traditional dog at the ballpark. Add that to the fact that we’re playing one of the worst teams in baseball, and it should make for a pretty great game, right? Except I’m there. So of course it ended poorly. Let’s just say we were beating them handily until they somehow managed to score 4 runs in the 7th after they already had 2 outs. That last out took three pitchers, at least 45 pitches, 6 batters, and 20 minutes to get. It was pretty excruciating.
But hey, if you’re going to watch a game completely fall apart at the seams, you might as well have a good view. Not bad for $14 seats!
