As predicted I am now completely unhinged (which I can say with some authority now that thesaurus.com has been kind enough to provide me with a list of synonyms for incoherent). But that’s not going to stop me from posting something because seriously folks, that was just about the most exciting postseason game I have ever witnessed. TWICE we went into our potential last at bat down by two runs. TWICE there was only one strike standing* between us and losing the World Series. And TWICE our boys came back big to tie it up. My heart just about didn’t make it.
We were playing catchup the whole freakin’ game until Mr. David Freese decided in the bottom of the 11th that it was just about time we put it away and BOOM! It was over. For all of my friends who don’t think baseball is exciting, I really wish I could have forced you to watch those last three innings. Because that is baseball. And it is amazing. Anyone who wasn’t on the edge of their seats through all of innings 9, 10, and 11 just doesn’t have a pulse.
The amount of adrenaline that was pumping through my veins during the last hour or so of the game was pretty astounding. That combined with the natural high that comes from playing 50 straight minutes of coed indoor soccer with one player down as I did at 10:30 tonight means I AM WIRED!!!!! So very very wired. The game ended almost two hours ago and I have still not come down. I feel about as ready to go to sleep as a five-year-old on Halloween night who managed to eat that whole pack of pixie sticks. Maybe by 3 a.m. I’ll be ready to give it a try at least.
I’ve been known to have some serious regrets come morning about how late (or early) I stayed up the night before. Not tomorrow. I predict it will take about 1.6 seconds of consciousness for the smile to explode on my face. If I’m really lucky I won’t even snooze through breakfast. No matter how drowsy I become, I will delight in the joy that is the Cardinals going to Game 7 of the WORLD SERIES!!!! If only I could beam myself and The Best Friend to my parents’ living room…
