A Capitols Christmas

Since the contingent at my office keeps getting smaller and smaller, we decided to do away with the whole Christmas party thing and just go to a Caps game. I’ve never watched a lot of hockey but always found it very impressive that they can skate so well, much less play a sport while doing so. Tonight my co-workers got the chance to give me a little education. It went well except for the part when I mentioned doing something at the end of this quarter. Oops. Who ever heard of having an odd number of game segments anyway?

Our seats were way, way up there – and by that I mean our backs were literally to the wall. But one thing I learned today about hockey is it’s not as big of a deal to have seats high up than it is for say basketball or baseball. You can still follow the action pretty easily.

I will admit though, if the players in this photo look small, it’s not just because we were so high up. It’s also because they’re elementary school children who played in between the first and second period. The real game was fun but seeing these kids skate around might have been the highlight. Especially the one kid who had some serious chops, scored a goal, and then smiled a big smile showcasing the gaping hole in the front of his mouth where at least one, possibly two teeth should be. He’s obviously got a bright future in hockey.
