Day 10: Special Shapes, sunsets and fireworks

I’m currently on a 5,000 mile road trip through 15 states with Cecily. The following is an excerpt from today’s post on our blog,

Disclaimer: Two days in a row of staying up pretty late and getting up at 4 a.m. have resulted in us being in such a delirious state right now that the post might not be quite up to snuff tonight.

Once again we made it to the balloon field hours before sunset, excited about the prospect of the Special Shapes event. We were supposed to help get a giant cactus balloon launched that is about as tall as an eight story building. Unfortunately the weather did not cooperate and the wind was just too crazy to try it. Several other pilots did make the attempt, so we got to see quite a few other special shapes in action.

We left about 11:30 a.m. and Megan was so exhausted and brain dead that she almost walked right in the wrong house. It was at that moment that Cecily had an important decision to make: let her walk into a stranger’s house and capture it all on video, or stop her before she rang the doorbell. Luckily for Megan, Cecily is a remarkable friend. That or she was just too tired to get out her camera.
